Iran Open to ‘Fair, Balanced’ Nuclear Talks with US, FM States

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi announced Tehran's readiness for equitable negotiations with Washington during a televised interview on Saturday, marking a potential shift in diplomatic dynamics amid stalled nuclear talks.

Araghchi emphasized that Iran would consider any U.S. proposal ensuring mutual respect and safeguarding national interests. "Our stance has always been clear: negotiations must be fair, balanced, and on equal footing," he told state-run IRIB TV, reiterating that discussions would focus solely on nuclear matters.

The remarks come as tensions persist over the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which unraveled after the U.S. withdrew in 2018 and reimposed sanctions. Iran has since reduced compliance with the agreement, though Araghchi reaffirmed its uranium enrichment activities remain "exclusively peaceful."

While signaling openness to U.S. dialogue, Araghchi dismissed current prospects for talks with France, Britain, and Germany (E3), citing insufficient grounds. Analysts suggest this stance reflects Tehran's strategic prioritization of direct engagement with Washington to address sanctions relief.

Global markets will closely watch developments, as renewed negotiations could impact energy security and regional stability. For academic observers, Iran's insistence on "fixed" negotiation parameters underscores the delicate balance between diplomatic flexibility and domestic political pressures.
