United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for strict adherence to a newly announced agreement aimed at securing a ceasefire and hostage release in Gaza. The deal, based on a proposal put forward by U.S. President Donald Trump, seeks to end months of conflict and humanitarian crisis in the region.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Guterres emphasized the urgency of compliance: "All hostages must be released in a dignified manner. A permanent ceasefire must be secured. The fighting must stop once and for all." He stressed the need for "immediate and unimpeded" humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza and pledged UN support for reconstruction efforts.
The Secretary-General framed the agreement as a pivotal opportunity to advance lasting peace, urging stakeholders to establish a "credible political path" toward a two-state solution. "This is the moment to recognize the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people while ensuring Israelis and Palestinians can coexist in security," he said.
The UN will coordinate humanitarian relief and monitor the deal's implementation, marking one of the most significant international interventions in the conflict this year.
