Gaza Ceasefire Enters Critical Phase: Challenges Ahead for Lasting Peace

Israel and Hamas have confirmed the first phase of a Gaza ceasefire agreement, marking a tentative pause in a conflict that has spanned over two years. While the development offers hope for stability, experts emphasize that the road to lasting peace hinges on effective implementation and addressing complex political and economic challenges.

"This is a crucial step, but the real test lies ahead," said Wang Jin, director of the Center for International Strategic Studies at Northwest University. He highlighted obstacles such as forming a new governance structure in Gaza, rebuilding infrastructure, and navigating Hamas' role in the region. Wang stressed that international cooperation will be vital to sustain momentum.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the agreement as "a great day for Israel" and plans to present it to his cabinet for approval. However, resistance is expected from far-right coalition members who oppose concessions. Wang noted that Netanyahu may leverage political compromises, such as addressing West Bank settlement expansions, to secure support.

As global leaders monitor the situation, analysts urge cautious optimism. The ceasefire’s success will depend on trust-building measures, humanitarian aid delivery, and inclusive dialogue to address root causes of the conflict.
