The UN Human Rights Council unanimously adopted a landmark resolution Monday addressing inequalities through economic, social, and cultural rights advancement. China spearheaded the draft, submitted on behalf of nearly 70 countries spanning Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Ambassador Chen Xu, China's permanent representative in Geneva, emphasized the resolution's timing during the 80th anniversary of the UN's founding and 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration. "This initiative bridges differences through action-oriented cooperation," Chen stated, highlighting plans to strengthen multilateral dialogue and technical assistance via a UN knowledge hub established under previous China-led efforts.
Developing nations praised the resolution's focus on practical needs, with Bolivia and Pakistan noting its alignment with grassroots demands for rights investment. The European Union joined multiple delegations in endorsing the framework, while UN human rights officials congratulated China's mission post-adoption.
The resolution signals growing consensus on addressing development gaps through institutional collaboration, with China positioning itself as a key facilitator in global rights discourse.
