South Korea has reaffirmed its determination to conclude a landmark tariff reduction agreement with the United States, with Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan stating Thursday that both nations are working to resolve remaining differences over Seoul's proposed $350 billion investment package.
The announcement comes three months after the two allies reached an initial agreement in July, marking what Kim described as "a critical step toward strengthening economic cooperation." The investment plan – equivalent to nearly 20% of South Korea's annual GDP – would focus on advanced manufacturing and technology sectors in the US.
"We remain fully committed to bridging gaps in the negotiation process," Kim told reporters when questioned about potential withdrawal from talks. Analysts suggest the deal could reshape supply chain dynamics in semiconductors and clean energy while addressing US concerns about trade imbalances.
