The 2025 IAA Mobility show in Munich opened this week with a striking display of China's growing influence in the global electric vehicle (EV) sector. Over 55% of exhibitors at the event now hail from outside Germany, up sharply from 32% in 2021, with Chinese companies forming the largest foreign contingent.
Chinese EV manufacturers BYD, Xpeng, and Leapmotor showcased cutting-edge models alongside battery leader CATL and tech innovators like Zhuoyu and DeepRoute.ai. This comes as German automakers Volkswagen, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz unveiled their latest EV developments on home turf, setting the stage for cross-continental technological competition.
Organizers noted the 116 Chinese participants reflect Asia's accelerating shift toward sustainable mobility solutions. 'The strong Chinese presence underscores how global automotive innovation is becoming increasingly multipolar,' a show representative told KhabarAsia.
