Two Palestinian gunmen killed six people and injured 11 others in a shooting at a Jerusalem bus stop on Monday, marking one of the deadliest attacks in the city in recent years. Israeli police described the incident as "a terrorist attack," with Foreign Minister Gideon Saar confirming the assailants were from the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
Among the victims were a 50-year-old man, a woman in her fifties, and three men in their thirties. A sixth victim later succumbed to injuries. Six survivors remain in critical condition with gunshot wounds.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the targeting of civilians, while Hamas and Islamic Jihad praised the attackers as "resistance fighters" without claiming responsibility. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to pursue suspects involved in the attack, which occurred at Ramot Junction.
The incident follows a pattern of violence: In October 2024, seven died in a Tel Aviv attack, and three were killed at another Jerusalem bus stop in November 2023. Israeli authorities linked the 2023 shooting to Hamas.
Amid escalating tensions, Israel has accepted a ceasefire proposal, though details remain undisclosed. Analysts warn the attack could complicate efforts to stabilize cross-regional relations.
