Jerusalem Bus Attack Leaves 6 Dead, Sparks Regional Tensions

Six people were killed and dozens injured in a shooting attack at a busy Jerusalem bus stop on Monday morning, marking one of the deadliest incidents in the city this year. Israeli authorities confirmed two Palestinian gunmen opened fire during rush hour at Ramot Junction near East Jerusalem before being neutralized by security forces and a civilian.

Chaos Amid Shattered Glass

Surveillance footage showed panicked commuters fleeing as bullets struck two buses and a crowded waiting area. First responders described scenes of chaos, with broken glass and bloodstains covering the ground. Magen David Adom ambulance services reported 38 injured, including six in critical condition.

Regional Context

The attackers, identified by Kan TV as residents of West Bank villages near Ramallah, carried a handgun and makeshift submachine gun. The assault occurred amid escalating violence in the West Bank and ongoing military operations in Gaza, now entering their 23rd month.

International Response

The European Union condemned the attack while reiterating calls for immediate de-escalation. "This tragedy underscores why a Gaza ceasefire remains urgent," stated EU spokesperson Anouar El Anouni. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened emergency security talks following the incident.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which follows increased settler-Palestinian clashes and retaliatory strikes across occupied territories.
