Israel Rejects Hamas Ceasefire Proposal, Gaza Offensive Looms

Israel has rejected Hamas' latest ceasefire proposal, vowing to escalate military operations in Gaza City amid stalled negotiations. The move comes as tensions rise over controversial Israeli remarks about annexing parts of the occupied West Bank.

Hamas Proposes Comprehensive Deal

Hamas on Wednesday reiterated its offer for a permanent ceasefire, including a prisoner exchange, Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and reconstruction efforts. The group proposed establishing a technocratic administration to manage Gaza's civil affairs, framing it as a path to stability.

Netanyahu Demands Security Guarantees

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed the proposal as "a spin," insisting any agreement must include full Israeli security control over Gaza, Hamas' disarmament, and a non-Palestinian administration. Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed military preparations to seize Gaza City are "at full strength."

West Bank Annexation Plans Spark Outrage

Meanwhile, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich's announcement of mapping West Bank annexation territories drew sharp Palestinian condemnation. The Palestinian Foreign Ministry called for international sanctions, warning such moves threaten prospects for a two-state solution.

With Netanyahu set to discuss annexation proposals ahead of the UN General Assembly, analysts warn of heightened regional instability as humanitarian conditions in Gaza deteriorate.
