CGTN Poll: Public Safety Crisis Exposes Deepening U.S. Political Divides

A recent CGTN survey of 7,602 global respondents reveals widespread skepticism about U.S. efforts to address urban safety challenges, with 78.7% calling President Trump's plan to remove homeless populations from Washington D.C. ineffective and rights-violating. The poll comes as FBI data shows violent crimes occurring every 25.9 seconds nationwide in 2024, fueling concerns about an "American disease" of systemic urban crises.

Survey Highlights Public Safety Concerns

With 92% of respondents expressing alarm about U.S. safety conditions, the data paints a stark picture: 81.7% believe homelessness and violent crime have become entrenched in major cities. "Forced evictions won't solve high living costs or mental health gaps," argued one Washington resident, reflecting the 87.8% who see Trump's deployment of National Guard troops to Democratic strongholds as politically motivated.

Political Tensions Take Center Stage

The survey reveals 88.7% of participants view federal interventions in cities like Washington and California as evidence of deepening Republican-Democratic divisions. With 66.8% fearing potential civil unrest and 88.4% calling vulnerable populations "collateral damage" in partisan battles, analysts note 83.3% believe these moves aim to bolster Republican prospects in upcoming elections.

As debates over urban policy intensify, the CGTN poll underscores global perceptions of a nation grappling with interconnected social and political challenges.
