Air India Clears Fuel Switch Inspections with No Faults Found

Air India has successfully completed precautionary inspections of Fuel Control Switch (FCS) mechanisms across its Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 737 fleet, confirming no technical issues. The move follows a July 14 directive from India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued after a fatal June 12 Boeing 787-8 crash that claimed 260 lives.

Inspections began voluntarily two days before the DGCA mandate and concluded by the July 21 deadline, aligning with a U.S. Federal Aviation Administration bulletin addressing potential FCS locking feature disengagement. India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) preliminary findings suggest cockpit confusion regarding engine switch movements caused fuel supply disruption during the incident.

While the AAIB report identified no critical aircraft or engine malfunctions, it stopped short of recommending immediate corrective measures for manufacturers or operators. The outcome reinforces Air India's operational compliance amid heightened aviation safety scrutiny across Asia's rapidly growing aviation sector.
