UN Extends Haiti Mission Mandate Through 2026

The UN Security Council unanimously voted to extend its political mission in Haiti on Monday, maintaining international support for the Caribbean nation's stability efforts. Resolution 2751 renews the mandate of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) until January 31, 2026, signaling continued global commitment amid ongoing security and governance challenges.

The decision comes as Haiti faces complex political transitions and humanitarian needs following years of social unrest. BINUH, established in 2019, focuses on strengthening rule of law, promoting human rights, and supporting institutional reforms. Analysts suggest the extended mandate reflects cautious optimism about Haiti's path toward democratic elections and economic recovery.

Council members emphasized the importance of regional cooperation and inclusive dialogue during deliberations. The resolution also urges international donors to fulfill financial pledges made during recent aid conferences.
