China Showcases Human Rights Progress at Madrid Seminar

The 2025 China-Europe Seminar on Human Rights opened in Madrid this week, gathering experts from China and over 20 European countries to address human rights challenges in the digital age. Under the theme 'Human Rights in the Era of Digital Intelligence,' participants explored how technological advancements can coexist with fundamental freedoms.

Marta Montoro of Spain's China Knowledge Lecture Hall Foundation emphasized inclusive progress: 'We reject divisions between winners and losers. True strength lies in multipolar cooperation.' She praised China's focus on common prosperity and sustainable development as models for global collaboration.

Lu Guangjin from the China Society for Human Rights Studies revealed staggering digital adoption figures: 1.1 billion internet users and 974 million online shoppers in China by late 2024. 'Our legal framework ensures citizen control over personal data,' he noted, highlighting landmark laws like the Data Security Law and Personal Information Protection Law that mandate informed consent principles.

The seminar underscored China's approach to balancing technological growth with rights protection, offering case studies for global policymakers navigating digital transformation challenges.
