U.S. Strikes on Iran Nuclear Sites Threaten Diplomacy, Analyst Warns

Iranian journalist Mehdi Latifi has sharply criticized recent U.S. military strikes on nuclear facilities in Iran, calling the move a destructive blow to diplomatic efforts during an exclusive interview with CGTN. Latifi, a veteran analyst with 15 years of experience covering Iran’s nuclear program, argued the attacks occurred amid active negotiations with European nations, undermining trust and international norms.

"The U.S. has closed the door to diplomacy by striking three Iranian nuclear sites," Latifi stated, emphasizing that the targeted facilities had been evacuated beforehand, resulting in minimal casualties. However, he warned of imminent military retaliation: "American bases and forces in the region will face severe consequences."

Latifi accused Israel of influencing U.S. foreign policy, claiming the strikes reflected "dictation by the Israeli regime." He stressed that attacking nuclear sites during talks violates the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), eroding global trust. The analyst also highlighted widespread Iranian public skepticism toward U.S. intentions, citing the collapse of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as a key reason for dwindling faith in diplomacy.

"The window for genuine diplomacy has almost entirely closed," Latifi concluded, urging global intellectuals and policymakers to hold the U.S. accountable. His remarks underscore rising tensions in the Middle East, with implications for regional stability and international nuclear governance.
