Air India Crash Death Toll Rises to 274; Probe Intensifies

The death toll from Thursday's Air India plane crash near Ahmedabad Airport in Gujarat has risen to 274, including 33 residents confirmed dead on the ground, according to Indian media reports. The Boeing 787-8 aircraft, operating as flight AI-171 to London, crashed moments after takeoff in India's worst aviation disaster in a decade.

Investigation Underway

India's government has established a high-level committee led by the Home Secretary to investigate the crash, with findings expected within three months. Technical scrutiny focuses on engine thrust, flap configuration, and unresolved landing gear deployment during takeoff. Maintenance protocols at Air India are also under review.

Recovery Efforts

Authorities retrieved the digital flight data recorder from the crash site at BJ Medical College, but the cockpit voice recorder remains missing. The incident marks the deadliest aviation accident since 2014, with only one survivor among the 241 passengers and crew.

International aviation experts are monitoring the probe closely as global safety standards come under renewed scrutiny.
