A railway bridge collapse in Russia's Kursk region disrupted transport networks early Sunday, derailing a freight train and sparking emergency response efforts. The incident occurred near the Trosna-Kalinovka highway in Zheleznogorsk district, according to acting Governor Alexander Khinshtein.
Authorities confirmed part of the train fell onto the roadway below after the structure failed at the 48-kilometer mark, with the locomotive catching fire. One crew member sustained injuries during the accident, though no fatalities were reported.
"Emergency teams are working intensively at the site to manage the situation and assess infrastructure damage," Khinshtein stated, emphasizing ongoing efforts to restore safe transit conditions. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation.
The incident highlights growing concerns about aging transport infrastructure across Eurasia, particularly along key freight corridors connecting Asian and European markets. Analysts suggest such disruptions could temporarily impact regional supply chains while repairs are underway.
