Iran Hails ‘Most Professional’ Round of U.S. Talks Amid Nuclear Stalemate

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi described the fifth round of indirect U.S.-Iran negotiations as "one of the most professional rounds" to date, signaling cautious optimism amid ongoing tensions over Tehran's nuclear program. The talks, mediated by Oman and held in Rome on Friday, lasted over three hours and included discussions on sanctions relief and uranium enrichment demands.

Progress Amid Persistent Divides

Araghchi told Iran's state-run IRIB TV that Washington now demonstrates "a better and more clear understanding" of Tehran's positions, though he emphasized that resolving complex issues would require multiple additional rounds. "We are treading along a reasonable path," he said, characterizing this as progress despite no breakthrough.

Oman's Crucial Mediation Role

Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi noted "some but not conclusive progress" in the latest discussions. Oman has facilitated all five rounds since April, with three earlier sessions hosted in Muscat. The next round’s timing remains undecided.

Uranium Demands Stall Momentum

U.S. officials continue to insist Iran halt all uranium enrichment activities—a red line for Tehran, which maintains its nuclear program is peaceful. Analysts suggest this fundamental disagreement could prolong negotiations indefinitely, even as both sides acknowledge improved dialogue mechanics.
