China Warns U.S. ‘Golden Dome’ System Threatens Space Security

China has issued a stark warning about the United States' newly unveiled 'Golden Dome' missile defense program, calling it a destabilizing force that could accelerate the militarization of space. The system, set for completion within three years, integrates advanced land, sea, and space-based technologies – a development Beijing claims violates international agreements on peaceful space exploration.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized Wednesday that the project's 'offensive implications' contradict the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, which prohibits weapons of mass destruction in orbit. 'This isn't just about defense – it's about achieving space dominance through military means,' she stated during a press briefing.

The announcement follows Washington's May 20 disclosure of Golden Dome specifications, which Chinese analysts suggest could enable first-strike capabilities by neutralizing rival missile systems. Mao criticized the U.S. approach to national security as 'zero-sum thinking,' arguing that 'absolute security for one nation means diminished security for all.'

With global arms control frameworks already strained, Beijing urged Washington to halt the program and 'prioritize multilateral dialogue over unilateral military expansion.' The statement comes as multiple nations develop space-based defense technologies, raising concerns about a new frontier for international tensions.
