World Central Kitchen Halts Gaza Operations Amid Supply Shortages

World Central Kitchen (WCK), a leading humanitarian organization, has suspended its food relief operations in Gaza after 18 months of non-stop service, citing critical shortages of essential supplies. The group, which provided over 130 million meals and 26 million loaves of bread to Gaza residents, revealed that border closures since March have paralyzed its ability to replenish stocks.

‘Mobile bakeries have no flour, and kitchens lack basic ingredients,’ WCK stated. Over 80% of community kitchens relying on their supplies are now depleted. Amjad Shawa of the Palestinian Non-Governmental Organizations Network warned of worsening hunger, urging immediate action to reopen crossings: ‘Children, the elderly, and women face catastrophic health risks.’

Israel halted entry of goods into Gaza after the expiration of a January ceasefire agreement with Hamas. The UN has raised alarms about acute malnutrition rates, calling the situation a ‘humanitarian catastrophe in the making.’
