Sudan Paramilitary Violence Claims 300 Lives in 48 Hours: Govt Report

At least 300 people have been killed in southwestern Sudan’s Al-Nuhood city following a two-day assault by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to a statement from the Sudanese Foreign Ministry on Saturday. The attacks mark one of the deadliest escalations in the region since conflict erupted between the RSF and government forces last year.

Officials accused the RSF of targeting civilians “on an ethnic basis” and committing “crimes against humanity,” while urging the UN Security Council to address what they called growing international tolerance of the group’s actions. The RSF, which controls large parts of Sudan, has not publicly responded to the allegations.

The violence in West Kordofan State underscores deepening humanitarian concerns as rival factions vie for control of strategic areas. Analysts warn the conflict risks further destabilizing regional trade routes and exacerbating food insecurity across East Africa.

Sudan has faced protracted internal strife since the 2021 military coup, with over 10,000 fatalities reported nationwide. Ongoing clashes have displaced millions and drawn scrutiny from global rights organizations.
