Alexander Zverev Celebrates 28th Birthday with Historic BMW Open Triumph

German tennis star Alexander Zverev delivered a birthday masterclass on Sunday, clinching his third BMW Open title in Munich with a decisive 6-2, 6-4 victory over American Ben Shelton. The world No. 3’s win marks his first title of 2024 and ties compatriot Philipp Kohlschreiber’s tournament record.

Playing on home soil, Zverev dazzled fans with a composed performance, breaking Shelton’s serve early in both sets. The 28-year-old’s precision and adaptability in hot, fast-paced conditions secured his 24th career ATP Tour trophy.

"I knew I had to play my best tennis today," Zverev said post-match. "Ben’s had a strong week, but these conditions suited us both. Celebrating with this win makes it a perfect birthday."

Zverev’s triumph also etches his name in history as the first German to win the BMW Open since its 2024 upgrade to an ATP 500 event. His six career titles on German courts underscore his dominance in front of local crowds.
