The Houthi group in Yemen announced retaliatory missile attacks on Friday, targeting two US aircraft carriers and an Israeli military site near Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport. The move follows US strikes on a Yemeni fuel port that reportedly killed 74 people, marking the deadliest American-led operation in the country since early 2023.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree declared that continued US military aggression would result in “more counter-attack operations, clashes, and confrontations,” during a statement in Sanaa. The group claimed its operations aimed to “deter further escalation” amid rising tensions in the Red Sea region.
The US has not yet confirmed damage to its carriers or the alleged strike near Israel. Analysts warn the escalation underscores growing instability in Middle Eastern maritime corridors critical for global trade. The conflict also raises concerns over broader regional spillover, particularly amid heightened cross-border exchanges between Israel and neighboring groups.
