Israel Controls Third of Gaza Amid Ceasefire Negotiations, Casualties Rise

Israeli forces have expanded their military control across nearly a third of Gaza, creating new security zones and strategic corridors as ceasefire talks remain gridlocked. The military announced Wednesday it now maintains "full operational control" over key areas, including the newly established "Morag Corridor," which divides southern Gaza between Rafah and Khan Younis, and the "Netzarim Corridor" isolating Gaza City from the south.

A military-released infographic video showed extensive destruction in Khan Younis, with few structures left intact. Gaza health authorities reported 1,652 fatalities and 4,391 injuries since March 18, bringing the total death toll since October 2023 to over 51,000.

Despite ongoing hostilities, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu authorized negotiators to continue discussions for the release of 59 hostages still held in Gaza. Hamas, however, remains firm on demands for full Israeli withdrawal and reconstruction guarantees, calling any ceasefire without these terms a "political trap."

Humanitarian conditions worsen as Israel’s blockade on aid entry enters its third month, raising concerns among global observers. The conflict’s regional implications and humanitarian toll continue to draw international scrutiny.
