Noboa Secures Second Term as Ecuador’s President Amid Contested Results

Ecuador's President Daniel Noboa clinched re-election Sunday, according to official results, after a contentious race marked by security and economic concerns. The 36-year-old leader vowed to strengthen crime prevention measures and attract foreign investment during his full four-year term following a truncated interim period.

Leftist candidate Luisa González rejected the results during a late-night press conference, claiming “unprecedented irregularities” in voting processes. Observers from the Organization of American States called the election “transparent and peaceful” in a preliminary statement.

Analysts suggest Noboa’s victory reflects public approval of his emergency measures against drug-related violence, which has made Ecuador a focal point in global narcotics trade discussions. “This mandate allows continuity in stabilizing key export sectors like shrimp and bananas,” Quito-based economist Marisol Acosta told KhabarAsia.
