Greenland Leader Rejects US Interest in Arctic Territory

Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen unequivocally dismissed the possibility of the United States acquiring the autonomous Danish territory, stating in a Sunday social media post that \"The United States will not get Greenland under any circumstances.\" The remarks came in response to renewed discussions about former U.S. President Donald Trump's 2019 interest in purchasing the Arctic island.

With melting polar ice opening new shipping routes and mineral exploration opportunities, Greenland's strategic importance has grown significantly. Nielsen emphasized that Greenlanders maintain \"full control over our resources and future,\" while Danish officials reiterated their support for the territory's self-governance. Historical records show this marks at least the third U.S. attempt to acquire Greenland since 1867, underscoring its enduring geopolitical value.
