Abdul Latif al-Qanou, a Hamas spokesperson, was killed Thursday in an Israeli air strike targeting his tent in Jabalia, northern Gaza, according to Hamas-run Al-Aqsa TV. The attack also injured multiple people, while separate strikes in Gaza City and Khan Younis claimed at least seven lives, per local medical sources.
The killing follows Israel's elimination of two senior Hamas political office members earlier this week—Ismail Barhoum and Salah al-Bardawil. Hamas sources confirm that 11 of its 20-member decision-making body have been killed since hostilities reignited in late 2023.
Israel resumed large-scale military operations last week after accusing Hamas of rejecting ceasefire extension proposals. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated the strikes aim to pressure Hamas to release remaining hostages, threatening to seize Gaza territory if demands are unmet.
Gaza's health ministry reports at least 830 fatalities, primarily women and children, since March 18. Over 35,000 people have been displaced this month, compounding humanitarian concerns as cross-border negotiations remain stalled.
The conflict’s resurgence underscores deepening regional tensions, with analysts warning of prolonged instability affecting Middle East security and global energy markets.
