A tragic collision between a minibus and a truck claimed 14 lives on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway in western Kenya early Friday, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred at 3 a.m. local time, one of the region’s busiest transport routes, according to police spokesperson Michael Muchiri.
Victims included nine men, four women, and one child. All 12 passengers aboard the minibus, including the driver, died instantly. Two individuals in the truck also perished. Initial investigations suggest the truck driver lost control, collided with the minibus, and dragged it, trapping occupants inside.
Muchiri described the scene as "devastating" and urged drivers to exercise caution on highways. Kenyan authorities have launched a full inquiry to determine additional factors contributing to the crash, which highlights ongoing road safety challenges in the region.
