Arab Leaders Unite Behind $53B Gaza Plan, Counter US Proposal

Arab Summit Backs Egypt-Led Reconstruction Effort

Arab leaders unanimously endorsed Egypt’s $53 billion reconstruction blueprint for Gaza during an emergency summit in Cairo on Tuesday, signaling a unified response to the enclave’s humanitarian crisis. The plan prioritizes preventing Palestinian displacement while rebuilding critical infrastructure, including a new seaport and airport.

Technocratic Oversight and Global Funding

A non-factional committee under the Palestinian Authority will oversee Gaza’s recovery for at least six months, with Arab nations pledging financial and political support. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty confirmed plans to launch an international fundraising campaign, including a trust fund for donor contributions.

Summit participants warned against any attempts to displace Palestinians or seize occupied land, emphasizing that such actions risk regional destabilization. They urged Israel to withdraw from Gaza completely and facilitate unimpeded humanitarian access.

Contrasting Visions for Gaza

The initiative directly challenges former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to relocate Gazans to neighboring countries. Israel’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oren Marmorstein reiterated support for Trump’s approach on social media platform X, while UN Secretary-General António Guterres endorsed the Arab-backed plan, calling Gaza’s current conditions horrific.

Hamas welcomed the summit’s outcomes as a historic rejection of displacement policies, framing it as collective Arab recognition of Palestinian rights. The group emphasized that reconstruction efforts must align with Palestinian self-determination goals.
