Israeli and Qatari Delegations Begin Gaza Truce Talks in Cairo

Delegates from Israel and Qatar have arrived in Cairo for crucial negotiations aimed at extending the Gaza ceasefire. Accompanied by U.S. representatives, the delegations are engaging in intensive discussions to finalize the next stages of the ongoing truce agreement, according to Egypt's State Information Service (SIS).

The talks focus on ensuring the implementation of previously agreed-upon terms and enhancing the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to alleviate the suffering of Gaza's residents and promote stability in the region.

The Israeli Prime Minister's Office confirmed the dispatch of a negotiating delegation to Cairo on Thursday, following the completion of the first phase of the truce, which saw the exchange of hostages and prisoners between Israel and Palestinian groups. This initial 42-day phase is set to expire on Saturday, marking a critical period for negotiations.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar stated that the delegation's mission in Cairo is to determine if there is common ground to negotiate further phases of the truce. “We are ready to extend the framework in return for the release of more hostages,” Sa'ar said, referencing the terms of phase one.

Meanwhile, Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen emphasized that securing the release of the remaining 59 hostages in Gaza is a top priority for Israel. In response, Hamas has expressed readiness to engage in phase two talks, contingent upon a firm commitment to the ceasefire.

The ongoing ceasefire, brokered by Qatar and Egypt with support from the United States, commenced on January 19 and aims to bring long-term peace and humanitarian relief to the conflict-stricken area.
