The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have reported significant advancements in their ongoing battle against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). On Monday, the SAF announced progress on multiple fronts, signaling a pivotal shift in the conflict that has engulfed Sudan since mid-April 2023.
In Bahri city, located north of the capital Khartoum, the SAF successfully took full control of the Kafouri area. This region had been the last stronghold of the RSF in the city and served as a launching point for artillery attacks on army-held territories in Omdurman.
\"The SAF special forces at Al-Markhiat Military Base are advancing steadily in the Kafouri neighborhood after successful, intense operations, cleaning the area of the militia forces,\" the SAF stated on its official Facebook page.
The capture of Kafouri marks a significant milestone in the SAF's military campaign across major cities including Khartoum, Omdurman, and Bahri. This victory not only weakens the RSF's strategic positions but also boosts the morale of the Sudanese army.
In another development, the SAF announced the control of Al-Rahad city in North Kordofan State following fierce battles that lasted for days. Al-Rahad, located approximately 30 kilometers west of El Obeid—the capital of North Kordofan—it holds strategic importance due to its position at major road crossroads and as a vital station on Sudan's railway network, linking the west of the country to the eastern and central regions.
\"The armed forces continue their victories, advancing along Al-Rahad axis in North Kordofan and decisively crushing the militia,\" the SAF added in another statement on Monday.
The Sudanese army's ground units have been engaged in intense fighting in North Kordofan State, successfully recapturing Al-Rahad following the earlier recovery of Um Ruwaba, the state's second-largest city, on January 30. Additionally, the RSF has been retreating from several key areas in central Sudan, including strategic territories in Gezira and Sinnar states, as well as key installations in Khartoum such as the Khartoum Oil Refinery in the Al-Jaili area.
The conflict between the SAF and the RSF has been devastating, claiming more than 29,680 lives to date, according to estimates by international organizations. The ongoing struggle highlights the critical and dynamic nature of Sudan's political and social landscape.
