Deforestation has long been a challenge for Brazil, where decades of over-farming and logging operations have taken a toll and seriously threatened the Amazon rainforest and the Indigenous populations who live there.
However, the Brazilian government has made significant progress in slowing the loss of forested areas in recent years. At the latest United Nations climate conference, Brazil pledged not only to cease the destruction of the Amazon but also to embark on reforestation efforts to restore areas already damaged.
