Shia Clans Flee Syria Amid Escalating Border Clashes with Lebanon

Shia clans in Syria are relocating to Lebanon following intense bombardment in the border region between Lebanese forces and the new Syrian army.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports that drones and heavy weaponry have been utilized in recent clashes, resulting in multiple casualties and injuries. Both troops and civilians on either side have reportedly been kidnapped, with prisoners being exchanged between the factions.

The hostilities commenced in the Qusayr region of Syria's western Homs governorate. Syrian forces, under the control of the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which ousted former President Bashar al Assad in December, have launched an offensive in the Lebanese-majority border town of Hawik.
