China Lodges Formal Protest Over Japan’s Actions at Washington Summit

China has formally lodged representations with Japan concerning recent developments in Washington, as reported by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Liu Jinsong, Director General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, met with Yokochi Akira, the Chief Minister of the Embassy of Japan in China, on Monday. During the meeting, Liu expressed serious concerns and strong dissatisfaction regarding Japan's actions during the recent Japan-U.S. summit in Washington and the subsequent joint statement.

U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba held their first official meeting in Washington, D.C., on Friday. At their joint press conference, President Trump stated that he and Prime Minister Ishiba \\"agreed to cooperate even more closely to combat the Chinese economic aggression,\\" according to POLITICO.

The joint statement released by both leaders reiterated concerns related to the East China Sea and the South China Sea, with both sides opposing \\"any attempts by China to change the status quo by force or coercion in the East China Sea.\\"
