Trump Administration Offers Resignation Incentives to Federal Employees

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday a new initiative offering incentives for nearly all civilian federal workers to resign. This move signals a significant shift in the federal workforce, with plans to streamline government operations.

According to an email sent to federal employees, seen by Reuters, the \"deferred resignation program\" would allow employees to remain on the payroll through September 30 without being required to work. Typically, federal buyouts are capped at $25,000, and employees have until February 6 to decide whether to participate in the program.

The email further indicated expectations of a \"more streamlined and flexible workforce.\" While certain sectors like the military and specific agencies may see staff increases, the majority of federal agencies are poised for downsizing through restructurings and layoffs.

The White House has not provided an immediate comment on the matter.

Everett Kelley, President of the American Federation of Government Employees, expressed concern over the proposal, stating that it \"should not be viewed as voluntary.\" He added, \"Between the flurry of anti-worker executive orders and policies, it is clear that the Trump administration's goal is to turn the federal government into a toxic environment where workers cannot stay even if they want to.\"

This development raises questions about the future efficiency and capacity of the federal government, potentially impacting both domestic and international operations.
