Egypt has firmly rejected any forced displacement of Palestinians from their homeland, following comments by U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting the relocation of Gaza's population to neighboring Egypt and Jordan.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry expressed its \"continued support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land.\" The ministry emphasized its rejection of \"any infringement on those inalienable rights, whether by settlement or annexation of land, or by the depopulation of that land of its people through displacement, encouraged transfer, or the uprooting of Palestinians from their land, whether temporarily or long-term.\"
After 15 months of war, President Trump referred to Gaza as a \"demolition site\" and stated his desire for Egypt and Jordan to take in the displaced population. Both Egypt and Jordan have voiced strong opposition to such plans since the onset of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023, warning that relocating Palestinians could destabilize the region and undermine the pursuit of a two-state solution.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, whom Trump mentioned he would speak with on Sunday, has repeatedly cautioned that forced displacement would \"eradicate the cause for Palestinian statehood.\" President Sisi has labeled the prospect a \"red line\" that poses a threat to Egypt's national security.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry urged the implementation of the \"two-state solution,\" asserting that this objective would become unattainable if Palestinians were removed from their territories. Cairo remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting Palestinian rights and achieving lasting peace in the region.
