Senior Hamas official Izzat el-Reshiq has confirmed that the Palestinian group remains committed to the ceasefire agreement announced by mediators on Wednesday. Speaking on Thursday, el-Reshiq emphasized Hamas’s dedication to maintaining peace in the region.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused Hamas of backtracking on some details of the ceasefire deal. On Thursday morning, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office released a statement claiming that Hamas was “backtracking on some details of the agreement reached with the mediators and Israel in an effort to extort last-minute concessions.”
The statement added that the Israeli cabinet would not convene until mediators notified Israel that Hamas had accepted all elements of the agreement.
The conflicting statements between Hamas and the Israeli government highlight the fragile nature of the ceasefire and the ongoing tensions between the two parties. Mediators are reportedly working diligently to bridge gaps and ensure both sides adhere to the agreed terms.
The ceasefire agreement comes after a period of heightened conflict, and many in the international community are watching closely in hopes of a lasting peace.
