Bulgarian Parliament Approves New Cabinet Led by Rosen Zhelyazkov

The Bulgarian National Assembly on Thursday approved a coalition government led by GERB-UDF’s nominee Rosen Zhelyazkov, ending more than two months of political uncertainty following the parliamentary elections.

With a majority vote, the parliament endorsed Zhelyazkov as the new Prime Minister, ushering in a new era of governance aimed at stabilizing Bulgaria’s political landscape and addressing pressing economic and social challenges.

The approval comes after extensive negotiations between the leading political parties, culminating in a coalition agreement that promises to focus on economic growth, anti-corruption measures, and strengthening Bulgaria’s role within the European Union.

“Our government is committed to implementing reforms that will benefit all citizens and restore trust in our institutions,” Zhelyazkov said in his inaugural address. “We will work tirelessly to address the challenges facing our nation.”

The new cabinet combines members of the GERB-UDF coalition with other parliamentary groups, reflecting a broad consensus aimed at overcoming the political stalemate that has hindered policy-making in recent months.

Political analysts view the formation of the new government as a positive step toward stability. “This coalition marks a significant shift and could pave the way for meaningful reforms,” said Ivan Petrov, a Sofia-based political commentator.

The international community has also welcomed the formation of the new cabinet. European leaders expressed hope that the new government will contribute to regional stability and further integration within the EU framework.

Bulgaria has faced a series of political upheavals in recent years, with frequent elections and short-lived governments. The approval of Zhelyazkov’s cabinet signals a potential turning point for the country as it seeks to navigate complex domestic and international issues.
