Biden Warns of ‘Dangerous Oligarchy’ in Farewell Address as Trump Set to Return

In a poignant farewell address from the Oval Office, U.S. President Joe Biden urged Americans to “stand guard” against a “dangerous” oligarchy forming under the leadership of Donald Trump, who is set to return to office next week.

The 82-year-old president warned of an emerging “tech industrial complex” that threatens to concentrate power and influence in the hands of a select few ultra-wealthy individuals, posing a significant risk to democracy.

“Today, an oligarchy is taking shape in America of extreme wealth, power, and influence that literally threatens our entire democracy,” Biden declared. “That’s a dangerous concentration of power in the hands of a very few ultra-wealthy people.”

Biden specifically criticized prominent figures in the technology sector, highlighting concerns over their growing influence. With Elon Musk, owner of X and the world’s richest man, poised to play a key role in Trump’s incoming administration, and Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg engaging with the Republican leadership, Biden expressed alarm over the potential implications for the nation.

“Americans are being buried under an avalanche of misinformation and disinformation, enabling the abuse of power,” he said, emphasizing the need for vigilance.

As Trump prepares to assume the presidency on January 20, Biden reflected on his own tenure and the challenges ahead. “Now it’s your turn to stand guard,” he told the American people, underscoring the importance of active civic engagement.

Biden’s single term in office saw significant efforts to address domestic and international issues. On the global stage, his administration made strides in Middle Eastern diplomacy. Earlier on Wednesday, a ceasefire and hostage release deal was reached between Israel and Hamas. Biden noted that he had directed his administration to collaborate with Trump’s team to achieve this accord.

The White House released a comprehensive dossier detailing Biden’s accomplishments across various sectors, including the economy, healthcare, and climate change initiatives.

In a heartfelt letter previewing his speech, Biden wrote, “I have given my heart and my soul to our nation,” calling it the “privilege of my life to serve this nation for over 50 years.”

As he steps down, Biden leaves behind a legacy marked by dedication and a call to protect the fundamental principles of democracy in the face of evolving challenges.
