U.S. President Joe Biden revealed on Wednesday that law enforcement agencies are actively investigating potential connections between a devastating attack in New Orleans and an explosion involving a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump hotel in Las Vegas.
“We’re tracking the explosion of a Cybertruck outside the Trump hotel in Las Vegas,” President Biden stated. “Law enforcement and the intelligence community are investigating this as well, including whether there’s any possible connection with the attack in New Orleans.”
The New Orleans incident, which occurred on New Year’s Day, resulted in the tragic loss of fifteen lives after a U.S. Army veteran drove a pickup truck into a crowd of revelers. Approximately 30 others were injured, including two police officers who were wounded by gunfire from the suspect.
The assailant has been identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, a U.S. citizen from Texas. Jabbar was killed in a shootout with police following the attack.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is treating the incident as an act of terrorism. In a statement, the agency expressed concern that Jabbar might not have acted alone, suggesting he may not be “solely responsible” for the attack.
As communities in both cities grapple with the aftermath, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant. The investigations aim to uncover any coordinated efforts that may pose further threats to public safety.
“Our top priority is the safety and security of all Americans,” Biden emphasized. “We will leave no stone unturned in seeking justice for the victims and preventing future tragedies.”
