Despite Decline, Gun Violence Remains a Major Crisis in the U.S.

Despite recent declines, gun violence continues to be a major crisis in the United States. On average, 125 people die in gun-related incidents every single day, including homicides, suicides, and accidental deaths.

While the numbers have edged lower in recent years, they remain near the record highs seen during the pandemic. This persistent level of violence has communities and advocates deeply concerned about the future.

Violence prevention advocates are particularly worried that President-elect Donald Trump could reverse whatever modest gains have been made when he reclaims the White House next month. They fear that potential policy changes could undermine efforts to reduce gun-related deaths.
