In a tragic incident on Saturday, a strike targeted the Sheikh Radwan primary health care center in northern Gaza, injuring six people, including four children. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the attack occurred while parents were bringing their children for polio vaccinations during a humanitarian pause.
“The Sheikh Radwan primary health care center in northern Gaza was struck today while parents were bringing their children to the life-saving polio vaccination in an area where a humanitarian pause was agreed to allow vaccination to proceed,” WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated in a message on X.
He added, “Six people, including four children, were injured.”
The strike disrupted essential vaccination efforts in the region, where polio eradication remains a critical public health priority. The WHO emphasized the importance of safeguarding health facilities and staff, especially during humanitarian pauses intended to allow for crucial medical interventions.
The identity of the party responsible for the strike has not been disclosed.
This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by healthcare providers in conflict zones, where access to medical services is often hindered by security concerns.
