Over 150 people were injured, some critically, in a fireworks accident during a temple festival in the southern Indian state of Kerala, officials said Tuesday.
The accident occurred late Monday night in Kasaragod district, approximately 555 kilometers north of Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala. The incident took place during a traditional fireworks display, a highlight of the festival that draws large crowds from across the region.
“The injured were immediately taken to various hospitals in Kasaragod, Kannur, and Mangaluru. The condition of 10 people is stated to be critical,” said a police official at the scene.
