California Sees Slight Uptick in Violent Crime in 2023, Survey Reveals

California experienced a slight increase in violent crime last year, according to a new survey by the independent nonpartisan research group, the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC). The state’s violent crime rate rose by 1.7 percent, from 495 crimes per 100,000 residents in 2022 to 503 in 2023.

This rise reflects a continuing trend since the onset of the pandemic. \
