Gaza City, Gaza Strip — Hamas has confirmed the death of its leader, Yahya Sinwar, who was reported killed in combat. Khalil Al-Hayya, deputy Gaza Hamas chief and the group’s chief negotiator, announced on Friday that Sinwar’s death will only strengthen their resolve.
In a video statement released on Friday, Al-Hayya stated that Sinwar died in combat and his death would become a curse on “the occupiers.” He emphasized that the group remains steadfast in its mission and will continue its path until achieving the Palestinian people’s ambitions.
The Israeli military reported on Thursday that Sinwar was killed during an operation in southern Gaza. Sinwar was also identified as the architect behind the October 7 attack on Israel. He had succeeded Ismail Haniyeh as the leader of Hamas after Haniyeh was assassinated in a suspected Israeli strike in Tehran in late July.
Al-Hayya also addressed the issue of Israeli hostages held in Gaza, stating they would not be released until “the aggression” on the besieged Palestinian enclave stops and Israeli forces withdraw. The statement underscores the heightened tensions and the ongoing conflict in the region.
Sinwar’s death marks a significant moment in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, potentially impacting the dynamics of the region. Observers are watching closely to see how this development will influence future negotiations and the stability of the area.
