Peng Liyuan Congratulates UNESCO Award Winners for Advancing Girls’ and Women’s Education

Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping and UNESCO special envoy for the advancement of girls’ and women’s education, extended her heartfelt congratulations to the winners of the 2024 UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education during an award ceremony held on Wednesday in Paris, France.

In a sincere message, Peng paid high tribute to the award-winning organizations from Uganda and Zambia, acknowledging their outstanding contributions to promoting education for girls and women. “Girls’ and women’s education has a profound impact on their personal growth and development, the well-being of countless families, and the future of the world,” she emphasized.

Peng expressed her hope that all sectors of society would strongly support health education and digital education among girls and women. She advocated for the development of science education tailored to their needs, aiming to empower them with better health conditions, digital skills, and scientific literacy. “By enhancing their ability to innovate and start businesses, we can significantly advance women’s education and development in the new era,” she stated.

Highlighting China’s commitment, Peng noted that the country has always attached great importance to the cause of girls’ and women’s education. “We have continuously improved the educational environment for women in China while actively promoting the global cause of women’s education,” she said.

As a UNESCO special envoy, Peng reaffirmed her dedication to working with all parties to achieve gender equality and advance the global women’s cause. “Together, we can pool our efforts to make a real difference,” she encouraged.

The UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education, established by China in cooperation with UNESCO, is the organization’s only prize dedicated to promoting girls’ and women’s education. It plays a vital role in disseminating the concept of gender equality in education, sharing effective practices, and implementing gender equality as a global priority.
