Chinese State Councilor Shen Yiqin Strengthens Ties with UNICEF in Beijing Meeting

In a significant move to bolster international cooperation on children’s welfare, Chinese State Councilor Shen Yiqin met with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Executive Director Catherine Russell in Beijing on Monday. The meeting underscored China’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of children and deepening partnerships with global organizations.

Shen, who also serves as president of the All-China Women’s Federation, highlighted China’s vigorous efforts in advancing children’s causes. “China has actively implemented the Convention on the Rights of the Child, consistently improving the well-being of children and promoting their all-round development,” she noted.

Emphasizing the importance of collaboration, Shen expressed China’s willingness to deepen cooperation with UNICEF in areas such as basic education, health care, rural revitalization, and child care and protection. “We aim to make greater contributions to the global cause of children,” she added.

Catherine Russell commended China’s remarkable achievements in children’s development. She expressed a strong desire to maintain close relations and pursue more in-depth cooperation with China. “UNICEF is eager to build on our partnership with China to further advance the welfare of children worldwide,” Russell stated.

The meeting signifies a strengthening of ties between China and UNICEF, promising enhanced efforts towards improving the lives of children both within China and globally.
