In a phone conversation with Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz on Monday, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for an immediate, complete, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need to end the humanitarian disaster unfolding in the region. Wang also advocated for the release of all hostages and the unimpeded access of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, expressed deep concern over the prolonged escalation of conflict in the Middle East. He stressed that all lives are equally precious, regardless of nationality or ethnicity, and that countering violence with violence cannot truly address the legitimate concerns of all parties.
Highlighting that the Palestinian question remains a core issue in the Middle East, Wang noted that the international community is collectively urging a return to the political path of a two-state solution. \"Realizing the peaceful coexistence of Israel and Palestine, and the harmonious coexistence of the Jewish and Arab peoples, is the right way to achieve stability and lasting security for all parties, including Israel,\" Wang stated.
Addressing tensions between Israel and Iran, Wang conveyed China's concern over potential renewed conflict and turmoil in the region, asserting that such developments serve no one's interests. He urged all parties to proceed with caution to prevent falling into a vicious circle of violence. Wang reiterated that China has no self-interest in the Middle East and does not engage in geopolitical contests.
As a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, China stands on the side of peace, international law, and truth, Wang emphasized. He pledged that China will continue to play a constructive role in de-escalating the situation and restoring peace in the region.
Wang also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) personnel, mandated by Security Council resolutions to carry out peacekeeping missions. He called on the Israeli side to take concrete measures to guarantee their safety.
The two foreign ministers also discussed China-Israel relations. Katz affirmed that developing relations with China is an established policy in Israel and serves the common interests of both countries. He added that the Israeli government abides by its consistent position on the Taiwan question.
Wang responded that China maintains continuity and stability in its policy toward Israel and is willing to resume exchanges in all aspects as soon as the situation eases. He expressed hope for promoting the sustainable development of the innovative comprehensive partnership between the two countries. Additionally, Wang urged the Israeli side to take effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese institutions and nationals in Israel.
