China’s Commitment to Middle East Peace: Wang Yi’s Pledge to Ease Tensions
Amid the escalating tensions in the Middle East, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi affirmed China’s dedication to promoting peace and stability in the region. In a phone conversation on Monday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Wang emphasized that China will continue to act responsibly and play a constructive role in cooling down the conflict.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the importance of dialogue and consultation in resolving hotspot issues. “China has always called for resolving issues through dialogue and opposes exacerbating tensions, expanding conflicts, and engaging in military adventures,” he stated. Wang urged all parties to contribute to safeguarding regional peace and stability.
Both Wang and Araghchi expressed strong support for China-Iran relations, committing to maintaining exchanges at all levels and enhancing practical cooperation between their countries. Araghchi conveyed Iran’s deep concern over the risk of a broader regional escalation. “Iran does not want to see a further expansion of conflict,” he said, expressing a desire to cool down the situation through diplomatic means.
Araghchi acknowledged China’s significant influence in international affairs and expressed Iran’s willingness to strengthen communication and coordination with China. He also called on Israel to avoid taking risks and to proceed cautiously to prevent further escalation.
Wang Yi praised the Iranian government’s efforts in mediation diplomacy, encouraging enhanced understanding with relevant parties and improved relations with regional countries. He noted that the negative impacts of the Gaza crisis are clearly spilling over, leading to continuous escalation of regional tensions.
China, Wang said, will strengthen communication among all parties and build a broader international consensus. “We will pool the strengths of all parties,” he added, highlighting China’s approach to contributing positively to the situation.
In a move to foster regional harmony, Wang reaffirmed China’s support for the historic reconciliation between Iran and Saudi Arabia. “China is willing to jointly push for a positive outcome from the second meeting of the China-Iran-Saudi Arabia Trilateral Joint Committee,” he said. This initiative aims to consolidate the momentum of reconciliation between Iran and Saudi Arabia, injecting positive energy into regional peace and stability.
