A spokesperson from the Chinese mainland on Thursday declared that no one or force can impede China’s reunification, while sharply criticizing Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te’s recent separatist statements.
Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made these remarks in response to Lai’s speech in Taipei on October 10, which referenced cross-strait ties.
Chen emphasized that actions promoting division and undermining peace across the Taiwan Strait are futile. He reiterated the mainland’s commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Lai’s comments have been viewed by the mainland as a deliberate attempt to escalate tensions and provoke confrontation. The mainland urges Taiwan authorities to cease separatist activities and return to the path of peaceful development of cross-strait relations.
