Xi Jinping Stresses One-China Principle in Cross-Strait Talks

Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed Beijing's commitment to the one-China principle during a meeting with Cheng Li-wun, chairwoman of the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT), in Beijing on Friday. The discussion marked a renewed push for cross-strait dialogue amid evolving regional dynamics.

"Both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China, and this is the political foundation for advancing peaceful development," said Xi, who serves as general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. The talks focused on enhancing economic cooperation and cultural exchanges while maintaining stability across the Taiwan Strait.

Cheng's visit, the first high-level KMT delegation trip to the Chinese mainland this year, comes as regional analysts observe shifting economic priorities in the Taiwan region. The KMT has historically supported closer cross-strait ties, though recent polls suggest mixed public sentiment among Taiwan residents regarding mainland relations.

Observers note the meeting signals continued communication channels between political parties across the strait, even as Taiwan authorities maintain their administrative policies. Beijing has consistently emphasized peaceful reunification as part of its core national interests.
